EMDR

“I Feel Like I’m Losing My Mind”
You’ve caught yourself thinking it lately, and it doesn’t feel like an exaggeration anymore.
The fear turns up on days when you can’t find any reason for it. It stays longer than it should.
If someone asked how you’re really doing, the honest answer would be “I’m just really scared all the time.”
That’s hard to live with, and it’s harder when you can’t explain it.
You Keep Asking Why This Is Happening Now
Underneath all of it, you don’t know what’s going on with you.
You go back over your week looking for whatever started it.
Usually you come up with nothing.
So you start to wonder about yourself, which makes sense when so little of this adds up.
Your Fear Can Have a Source You Can’t See Yet
For many people who come to see me, something they lived through is still drawing a reaction long after it’s over.
Some of them know exactly what that something is, and for others it takes some looking.
EMDR is built for that kind of memory.

Nothing Gets Sprung on You
The full name is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and I’ll admit it’s a mouthful.
Before any part of it starts, I tell you what we’re about to do and why we’re doing it.
While it’s happening, I keep explaining, so you’re never left guessing what comes next.
Whatever comes up, I’m not going to judge it or hurry you past it.
Ask About Anything Along the Way
The aim is for painful memories to lose their emotional sting.
The tools are eye movements, tapping and grounding exercises, there to keep you settled and focused while we work with a memory.
Ask me about any of them, any time.
I did additional EMDR training specifically for panic attacks, so tell me early if panic is part of this for you.

“I Just Want to Be Happy”
It’s a plain wish, and a reasonable one.
Once a memory stops hitting as hard, plenty of people find their reactions start to match what’s in front of them.
The question of what’s going on with you tends to get easier to answer.
Happy, the way you mean it, looks a lot like a good day you don’t have to explain.
Let Me Explain It Before You Decide Anything
When you call (214) 452-5237, I’ll set aside a free 15-minute phone consultation to walk you through what EMDR would involve for you and take your questions.
I’ll also tell you straight whether I think we’re a good fit.
Pick up the phone or email hopenowcounseling@gmail.com, and ask me anything you want to know first.
Talk With Me About EMDR
You Can Come Back Without Starting Over
You finish, and you can still write to me. If something new shows up down the road, I’d rather hear from you again than have you start from the beginning somewhere else.
I mean that as a standing arrangement rather than a nice line to end on.
When a message lands in my inbox, I’m the one who reads it. I’ll write back and ask what’s going on and what you’d want to be different. Writing that first message is the hard part, and it doesn’t have to be a good one.
